Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension
It is extremely important that if you require surgery of any kind you speak to your Pulmonary Hypertension Treatment Team FIRST!
Always check with you team to see if you need any antibiotics before or after a minor procedure, or seeing the dentist. If you have another illness that requires surgery or you need to plan for surgery and go under a general anesthetic you need to first ask your doctor if you are allowed to have the procedure.
There are a few reasons for this. One is that the anesthesiologist needs to confer with your PH doctor to see if there are any special requirements for you during surgery. The second is if you are unable to be anathematised then what the alternatives may be for you?
Every PH patient is different and should be assessed thoroughly before going into any surgery that requires general anesthetic.
